The AMIS project organized a series of inception workshops on improving crop production forecasts to enhance country systems using additional data sources and tools available.
The workshops took place in Senegal, Zimbabwe and Kenya in September 2016.
The objective of these workshops was to introduce a proposal to develop guidelines for utilizing available remote sensing data for countries producing crop production forecasting. These data and tools will be used by countries as additional inputs.
The workshop mainly addressed the major problems encountered by developing countries in crop production forecasting and ways in which the additional remotely sensed data and tools can be used to face some of the challenges encountered. In addition, examples of portals and tools were also presented and thoroughly discussed.
In each country, participants included about 20 experts from the government and from non-governmental organizations that either produce or use crop production forecast data.
