On 15-19 May 2017, a workshop on Survey Solutions Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) was carried-out at the East African Statistical Training Centre (EASTC) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.The training was organized by the Global Strategy to improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics in collaboration with EASTC and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The training workshop was attended by twenty-one statisticians and data managers working in the national agricultural statistical systems from 7 Anglophone countries. It included sessions on:
- Advantages and disadvantages of using CAPI
- Survey Design
- Case and Sample Management
- Data Export
The workshop included about 50 percent lectures, and 50 percent hands-on exercises. The participants designed 4 different questionnaires, and completed 3 full simulations of real data collection.
The evaluation of the workshop was overwhelmingly positive with over 95% stating that their objectives were fully or almost fully achieved.
A statistician from EASTC will also attend a pilot survey in Kenya, implemented by the Global Office to gain a field experience using Survey Solutions. The objective is for training on Survey Solutions to become part of EASTC’s curriculum.
