Regional training workshop on Agricultural Cost of Production statistics for French-speaking countries

The African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tunisia organized a regional training on Agricultural Cost of Production (AgCoP) statistics for French speaking countries, in Hammamet, Tunisia, from 7 to 11 March 2016.

The main objective of the workshop was to train subject experts from countries on the use of the guidelines in order to set up a robust system to produce reliable AgCoP Statistics within the framework of the Action Plan for Africa for Improving Statistics for Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, and Rural Development.

The workshop was attended by 40 experts from 12 African French-speaking countries, responsible for AgCoP Statistics and/or agriculture statistics. Among other participants were representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and AFRISTAT, mainly as resource-persons.

One of the major outcomes of the workshop was the identification of areas of AgCoP, which require further technical assistance (TA) by country participants. Participants appreciated the training and committed to extend their newly acquired skills to other colleagues in their respective countries.
