The African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of Tunisia, organized a regional workshop in Hammamet from 26 to 29 January 2015, to support the implementation of the Action Plan to Improve Statistics for Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, and Rural Development in Africa.
The workshop for national coordinators of the Action Plan from Francophone African countries was attended by 67 participants from Ministries of Agriculture and National Statistical Offices as well as agricultural statistics experts. Other attendants included representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the European Commission, the World Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture of Mozambique.
Countries were fully updated on the achievements attained so far and briefed on newly developed methods, including the provision of instructions on how to develop Strategic Plan for Agricultural and Rural Statistics (SPARS). Furthermore, country specific and priority/urgent Technical Assistance needs were discussed and agreed upon. Those needs will represent the basis for a technical assistance work plan for 2015.
Important resolutions and recommendations were made by the participants, all of which contributed to finding the best ways for a smooth implementation of the Action Plan of the Global Strategy in Africa. Finally, the participants committed to taking necessary measures to ensure that the agreed recommendations are implemented as proposed.
