The African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of Tunisia, organized a regional workshop in Hammamet from 26 to 29 January 2015, to support the implementation of the Action Plan to Improve Statistics for Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, and Rural Development in Africa.
The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics has recently agreed to support the WAW initiative to build on the results achieved so far.
On the occasion of the 46th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC), a report of the Global Steering Committee on the implementation of the Global Strategy will be presented for discussion, along with a summary of activities of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Agricultural and Rural Statistics on food consumption, and a report on the FAO 2020 World Programme for the Census of Agriculture.
Following the 9th meeting of the Global Steering Committee where the implementing partners of the Global Strategy were requested to address country-driven TA needs in parallel to the development of the SPARS, the African Development Bank conducted a survey in its regional member countries to identify priority areas.
The Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Food Security, Agricultural and Rural Statistics (IAEG‑AG) will be holding its first meeting on 28 February 2015, at the margins of the upcoming 46th Session of the UN Statistical Commission.

The Global Office is pleased to announce the publication of Improving the Use of GPS, GIS, and Remote Sensing in Setting Up Master Sampling Frames, the fifth report of its Technical Reports series.
Amongst the many achievements of the Global Office in 2014, the delivery of the research agenda figures prominently.
Throughout 2014, the Global Office has placed great efforts on building partnerships within the framework of the Global Strategy. Three competitive selection processes were conducted to identify the best institutions to support the implementation of the research agenda.
